Walkthroughs
Note: The set of walkthroughs available grows over time, so your list may be longer than the one described here.
A walkthrough is a guided tour of AECPulse that runs inside the app itself. The page dims, one thing on screen is highlighted, and a short explanation appears beside it. You click Next to move on.
Walkthroughs are the quickest way to get your bearings if the app is new to you, and a good way to settle the questions the screen doesn’t answer on its own — such as why a number counts what it counts. They aren’t a replacement for this help guide; they’re the version you can follow while looking at your own work.
What’s available
Section titled “What’s available”| Walkthrough | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Your first five minutes | The three parts of every screen — the top bar, the side menu, and your page. Start here. |
| Where is everything? | The side menu group by group: what lives in Work, Libraries, Team, Finance and Firm. |
| Reading your dashboard | What each number on the home page actually counts, and why yours won’t match a colleague’s. |
| Making the app comfortable | Dark mode, hiding the side menu for more room, and where the help lives. |
All four run on the dashboard and need no projects or records, so they work on a brand-new firm.
Opening the Walkthroughs page
Section titled “Opening the Walkthroughs page”Click the graduation cap icon in the top bar, on any page. See The dashboard for the rest of the top bar.
The page lists every walkthrough, grouped by topic, with a short description, how many steps it has, and roughly how long it takes. A search box across the top narrows the list as you type, once you’ve entered at least two letters, matching on both the title and the description. Click Start on the one you want.
What to expect while one is running
Section titled “What to expect while one is running”- The rest of the page dims and one element is highlighted, with the explanation beside it.
- Next and Back move between steps. Back returns you to earlier pages if the walkthrough had moved you on.
- The walkthrough opens tabs and panels it needs, so you never have to hunt for what it’s describing.
- It waits for each page to finish loading before carrying on.
Stopping one
Section titled “Stopping one”A walkthrough stops as soon as you want it to. Any of these ends it:
- Pressing Esc.
- Clicking the X on the explanation box.
- Clicking anywhere outside the highlighted area.
- Navigating somewhere yourself, including with your browser’s back button.
Nothing is left behind when it stops, and the page returns to normal exactly as you left it — including the sidebar, if the walkthrough had opened it.
Walkthroughs never act for you
Section titled “Walkthroughs never act for you”A walkthrough never clicks or types on your behalf. It highlights the next thing and waits — every click is yours. It won’t fill in a field, choose a value, or press Save for you.
Some walkthroughs only look around, moving between pages and pointing things out. Others hand you the controls and guide you through actually doing something. When one guides you through creating a record, that record is real and it stays — you created it, deliberately, with your own click.
Either way it runs on your own records rather than made-up examples, so what you see explained is your firm’s actual data.
What you’ll see depends on your role
Section titled “What you’ll see depends on your role”Walkthroughs covering an area your role can’t reach aren’t listed at all. Within a walkthrough, an individual step about something you don’t have access to is skipped quietly — you’ll never be sent to a page you aren’t allowed to open. See Roles and access.
