Add a detail

Before you start: adding and editing details depends on your role. If you can browse the categories but see no Create detail button, your role is view-only — see Roles & access.

  1. In the sidebar, open Libraries → Details. The category list opens.
  2. Find the category the detail belongs to — the fourteen categories follow the order a building goes up, or type a name in the search box — and click Create detail beside it. (You can also click the category’s name to see its details, then click Create Detail above the list.)
  3. Enter the Name — what the detail is called on the sheet index.
  4. The Category is already set to the one you started from. Change it here if you started in the wrong place.
  5. Set the Drawing Type and Interior / Exterior. Both are picked from a list.
  6. Add a Description and the Drawing itself. The drawing is what the card shows.
  7. Fill in Assembly — assembly type, applicable code, whether it is typical or project specific, framing type, architectural style, fire rating, sealant type, primary material, finish, fastening method, and R-value.
  8. Under Specification, link the spec section this detail points at.
  9. A Category Details section at the bottom holds the fields that category needs. Fill in the ones you know — none of them are required, so you can come back later.
  10. Set the Status.
  11. Click Create Detail.

You land on the detail’s page, where everything you entered is shown together. Below that, three tabs carry the rest: Extra Details for the category’s own fields, Notes for anything that does not fit a field, and Files for marked-up PDFs, manufacturer literature, and field photos.

Drawing type, interior/exterior, framing type, and fire rating are picked from a fixed list, so everyone’s answers line up.

Architectural style and sealant type work differently: click the field to see the usual answers, or ignore the list and type your own. Whatever you type is saved exactly as written, which keeps a term your office uses available without anyone waiting on a product update.

The Linked Specification field is how a detail reaches product data. Rather than typing a manufacturer onto the detail, point it at the spec section, and the manufacturer, product, and vendor resolve through that. Start typing a spec number or name and pick from the results.

  1. Open the detail from its category’s list.
  2. Click Edit.
  3. Change what you need and click Save Detail.

Changing the category also changes which extra fields the detail has.

  1. On the edit form, pick a different Category.
  2. Any value the new category also asks for is carried over automatically.
  3. If the new category has no field for something you entered, you are told exactly which values would be cleared and asked to confirm.
  1. Open the detail.
  2. Click Delete and confirm.
